12/28/22 SUN CITY WEST – THE FIRST DAY OF PLAY AT THE 2022 ARIZONA SILVERBELLE, HOSTED BY BRIARWOOD C.C, OPENED TO DARK SKIES AND RAINFALL. WHILE THERE WERE NOT THE SUNNY SKIES THAT ARIZONA IS KNOWN FOR, THE SILVERBELLE BOASTED ITS EXTREMELY TALENTED AMATEUR FIELD THAT IT IS KNOWN FOR. SKILLED FEMALE AMATEURS OF ALL AGE RANGES NAVIGATED THE COLD TEMPERATURES, FALLING RAIN AND TRICKY GREEN COMPLEXES THROUGHOUT THE DAY. LUNA LU, A NATIVE OF BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA HOLDS THE FIRST ROUND LEAD AFTER A -3 (69) ON A DAY THAT DID NOT YIELD VERY MANY BIRDIES TO THE FIELD. LU MADE FOUR BIRDIES IN HER ROUND COMPARED TO HER LONE BOGEY ON THE 14TH HOLE. THIS INCLUDED BACK TO BACK BIRDIES ON THE PAR FOUR 16TH AND PAR FIVE 17TH WHICH QUICKLY BROUGHT HER UP THE LEADERBOARD INTO SOLO FIRST. LU ALSO JUST HAD THE HONOR OF BEING NAMED TO THE 2023 TEAM CANADA – NEXTGEN ROSTER. LU HOLDS A ONE SHOT LEAD OVER AMBER LI OF BELLEVUE, WA AND ALICE (ZIYI) ZHAO OF IRVINE, CA WHO BOTH SHOT -2 (70).
